Advent 2009

This is a season in the churches year known as a penitential time, a time of preparation for a major festival. Advent is a time when we look back in grateful thanks to the birth of Christ and forward in eager anticipation to His return. Each Sunday has a theme leading from Old Testament time to the Birth of Christ, to remind us we have an advent wreath with five candles: three purple, one pink, one white. Each Sunday the candles are lit in succession.

The Christingle Service was adopted by the “Children’s Society” from the Moravian church to raise money for disadvantaged children. In the service there will be given out oranges in which there is a candle, cocktail sticks with sweets, and around the orange is a red ribbon. The candle is the light of Christ, the four cocktail sticks the seasons, the sweets God’s bounty, the ribbon Christ’s blood.
