75 Not Out

“Let us now praise famous men”

This year (2006) marks 75 years of the church in North Greenford. Special thanks go to those in the first ten years whose dedication, generosity and vision enabled the building in which we now worship to be built . Not many now know the names of that faithful band, some names are recorded on the backs of the chairs and other places. The congregation worshiped in various places before the North Greenford Church was built, now the Hall. For the new church to be built the congregation had to raise a very large sum of money, then as the plans were nearly ready the war came, despite this a modified church was built . We were lucky, Saint Barnabas, together with other churches, had the work suspended for the duration ? you can still see the changes in colour of the bricks of that church.

The life of our church has fluctuated but now we are on an upward path, long may it continue, adapting and growing . Thank you again to that founding band; thank you to those who continued the work; thank you to the team now working to continue the work.

As John says, the original Church was, what is now, the Church Hall, the present Church being finished and dedicated in 1941.

I imagine in those days the church was packed plus an ever growing Sunday school in the post-war years. Although in recent years our numbers have reduced, we have recently seen an increase at all our services and our Junior Church is very active. Numbers at the Christmas services this year showed an increase.

As John says we have a good team working here at All Hallows, including our new group of singers and musicians. But we thank all of you who all help in some way especially those who quietly work ‘behind the scenes’ – their work going unnoticed, but without whom we could not do all that we do.

Our buildings, as time goes on, start to age and need attention. Again through your generosity, especially those who so kindly donated to our Appeal Fund, we were able to replace the heating and replace/install hot water heaters in Church and Hall; the builder is in the hall during the holidays repainting the hall ceiling, which we hope will improve the lighting. In the summer we should be having the other 2 sides of the tower re-pointed. In the future we look to further church re-pointing and upgrading of hall electrics. Many thanks and Good Wishes for the New Year!
